Description:
The Bunya Pine is a large evergreen tree that is native to Australia. It belongs to the Araucariaceae family and can grow up to a height of 30-45 meters (98-148 feet) and a spread of 8-15 meters (26-49 feet). The tree has a distinctive appearance with a straight trunk, a symmetrical crown, and large, flat, triangular-shaped leaves that can grow up to 30-45cm (12-18 inches) in length.

The tree is most notable for its large, edible pine cones that can weigh up to 10 kg (22 lbs) and contain large, nutritious seeds that were traditionally used as a food source by Indigenous Australians. The cones take up to two years to mature and fall to the ground, where they can be collected and roasted or boiled.

The Bunya Pine is a slow-growing tree, taking up to 30 years to reach maturity. It prefers well-drained soil and is tolerant of a range of soil types, including sandy, loamy, and clay soils. The tree requires full sun and is relatively drought-tolerant once established.

The Bunya Pine has cultural significance to Indigenous Australians, who hold annual Bunya Festivals when the cones are ready for harvesting. The festivals bring together different Indigenous groups from across the region to celebrate, trade, and share stories and traditions.

In addition to its cultural significance, the Bunya Pine has ecological value as an important habitat for a range of wildlife, including birds, possums, and insects. The tree also has ornamental value and is often grown as a specimen tree in parks and gardens.

Due to box limitations and to ensure safe shipment, all trees available for purchase at North Coast Jacarandas may be subject to pruning before delivery. This process encourages the formation of new buds, facilitating the successful establishment of your tree upon arrival. This wont happen for Bunya pines
