Description:
The Imperial Mandarin (Citrus reticulata) is a compact, evergreen citrus tree growing 3–5 metres tall with a rounded, bushy canopy. It has glossy deep green leaves, smooth grey-brown bark, and highly fragrant white blossoms in spring. A classic Australian favourite, it produces small to medium bright orange fruit that is exceptionally easy to peel, sweet, aromatic, and low in seeds. Attractive, reliable, and versatile, it thrives in home gardens, orchards, and large pots, offering consistent crops through late autumn and winter when citrus is most valued.
Soil pH:
Prefers well-drained soil with a pH between 5.5 and 7.0, performing best in slightly acidic to neutral conditions.
Growth Habit:
Naturally compact and rounded, suitable for small to medium gardens and can be maintained smaller with light pruning. Performs best in full sun with good airflow and produces dependable winter harvests.
Growth Rate:
A moderate grower, typically adding 30–60 cm per year depending on climate, soil quality, and care.
