Decription:

The Pussy Willow, is a deciduous shrub or small tree that can grow up to 10 meters (33 feet) in height. It is a member of the Salicaceae family, which also includes willows and poplars.

The plant produces distinctive catkins in early spring before the leaves appear, which are covered in soft, silvery-gray hairs that give them a fuzzy appearance resembling a cat's paw. The catkins contain both male and female flowers, with the male flowers being more prominent and showy. As the catkins mature, they become yellowish-green and release the wind-dispersed pollen.

The Pussy Willow is very adaptable and can grow in a variety of soils, including loam, clay, and sand, as long as the soil is moist and well-drained. It prefers full sun to partial shade, but can also tolerate shade. The plant is cold-hardy and can survive temperatures down to -30°C (-22°F).

The growth habit of the Pussy Willow is typically multi-stemmed and bushy, with a spreading, rounded form. The growth rate is moderate to fast, with an average growth rate of 0.6 to 1.2 meters (2 to 4 feet) per year.

In addition to its ornamental value, the Pussy Willow has also been used for centuries for medicinal purposes. It contains salicin, a natural compound similar to aspirin, which has anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties.

Due to box limitations and to ensure safe shipment, all trees available for purchase at North Coast Jacarandas may be subject to pruning before delivery. This process encourages the formation of new buds, facilitating the successful establishment of your tree upon arrival.
